White Mini Hibiscus, often called the White Lesser Mallow or Nitya Malli in Telugu, is a rare and ethereal variety of the Hibiscus hirtus family. Known as Kattupiratti in Tamil and Pandhara Hibiscus in Marathi, this plant is cherished for its small, star-like pure white blossoms with delicate red centers. These seeds have been hand-tested in my own garden to ensure they produce the hardy, pest-resistant shrubs that this wild variety is known for. Unlike heavy-feeding hybrid hibiscus, the White Mini Hibiscus is low-maintenance and blooms consistently throughout the year. Its compact growth habit and elegant, nodding flowers make it a perfect "expert-approved" choice for balcony gardeners looking to add a touch of serene, wild beauty to their collection.
Sowing Instructions for Indian Climate: White Mini Hibiscus (Hibiscus hirtus)
Best Sowing Time: Spring (February–March) and Monsoon (June–August). It loves the warmth and humidity of the Indian climate.
Temperature for Germination: 22-32°C.
Soil: Well-draining, fertile soil. A mix of garden soil, coco-peat, and organic compost works best for root development.
Sunlight: Prefers full sun to partial shade. Needs at least 5-6 hours of sunlight for prolific blooming.
Watering: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Keep it moist but ensure the pot has good drainage to avoid root rot.
Spacing: 12-18 inches apart if planting in a garden bed, or one plant per 8-10 inch pot.
Germination Time: 15-25 days. Pre-soaking seeds in lukewarm water for 12 hours can improve success rates.
