Dark Red Hollyhock (Alcea rosea) produces tall, dramatic spikes of rich, velvety, deep crimson-red flowers — one of the most striking and regal colours in the hollyhock range. The large, single flowers with a prominent central boss are borne on tall stems, creating an impressive vertical focal point in the winter garden. Known as Lal Gulkhaira (Hindi: लाल गुलखैरा), and Gul-e-Aabas in Urdu. Hollyhocks have been grown in Indian gardens since the Mughal era — a classic cottage garden and heritage garden plant. The dark red colour is especially prized for its rich, velvety depth.
