Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata / Cucurbita pepo) produces large, ribbed, deep orange fruits that are rich in beta-carotene, fibre, and Vitamins A and C. Used across India in curries, halwa, soups, and purees, pumpkin is one of the most nutritious and versatile vegetables available. The seeds are also edible — roasted and eaten as a snack. Known as Kaddoo (Hindi: कद्दू), Gummadikaya (Telugu: గుమ్మడికాయ), Poosanikai (Tamil: பூசணிக்காய்), Matta (Malayalam: മത്ത), Kumbhalkai (Kannada: ಕುಂಬಳಕಾಯಿ), and Bhopala (Marathi: भोपळा). A vigorous, large vine — give plenty of space or allow to trail on the ground.
