Muskmelon (Cucumis melo) is a warm-season fruit vegetable producing fragrant, sweet, orange-fleshed fruits with a netted, ribbed skin. Rich in Vitamin A and C, muskmelon is eaten fresh, juiced, and used in fruit salads. It requires hot, sunny conditions and well-draining soil to develop its characteristic sweetness. Known as Kharbuja (Hindi: खरबूजा), Kharbuza (Telugu: ఖర్బూజ), Mulampazham (Tamil: முலாம்பழம்), Vellari (Malayalam: വെള്ളരി), Kakari (Kannada: ಕಕ್ಕರಿ), and Kharbuj (Marathi: खरबूज). Grow in full sun with reduced watering as fruits mature for maximum sweetness.
