White Broad Beans (Vicia faba) are a cool-season legume producing large, flat pods filled with plump, creamy-white seeds with a rich, buttery flavour. One of the oldest cultivated vegetables in the world, broad beans are a nutritional powerhouse — high in protein, iron, and folate. The seeds can be eaten fresh, dried, or cooked in a variety of dishes. Known as Bakla (Hindi: बकला), Chikkudukaya (Telugu: చిక్కుడుకాయ), Avarai (Tamil: அவரை), Payar (Malayalam: പയർ), Avare (Kannada: ಅವರೆ), and Pavta (Marathi: पावटा). An excellent cool-season crop for North Indian winters and South Indian hill gardens.
