The Sky Chilli (Capsicum frutescens) is a small, intensely hot chilli variety producing thin, finger-sized fruits that grow pointing upward toward the sky — giving it its distinctive name. The fruits ripen from green to bright red and are known for their sharp, clean heat and strong pungency. Popular in South Indian and Southeast Asian cooking. Known as Natu Mirapa (Telugu: నాటు మిరప) and Thondam Milagai (Tamil: தொண்டை மிளகாய்), Sky Chilli is a favourite in traditional home gardens across South India. The upward-pointing fruits make it a visually striking ornamental plant as well.
