Cluster Sponge Gourd (Luffa cylindrica) is a tropical vine producing smooth, cylindrical, deep green fruits that grow in clusters. Young fruits are eaten as a vegetable — mild, tender, and delicious in curries and stir-fries. Mature fruits dry naturally into the fibrous loofah sponge. An extremely productive dual-purpose plant. Known as Ghia Torai (Hindi: घिया तोरई), Neti Beerakaya (Telugu: నేతి బీరకాయ), Peerkkangai (Tamil: பீர்க்கங்காய்), Peechil (Malayalam: പീച്ചിൽ), Tuppa Hirekai (Kannada: ತುಪ್ಪ ಹೀರೆಕಾಯಿ). Excellent for both kitchen use and producing natural loofah for the bathroom.
