Yard Long Beans — Red (Vigna unguiculata subsp. sesquipedalis) are a tropical climbing bean producing extraordinarily long pods — often 50–75 cm — with a distinctive red-purple colour that fades to green on cooking. Also known as Asparagus Beans, they have a crisp texture and mild, fresh flavour similar to green beans. Known as Lobia (Hindi: लोबिया), Alasanda (Telugu: అలసంద), Karamani (Tamil: கறாமணி), Vanpayar (Malayalam: വൻ‌പയർ), Alasande (Kannada: ಅಲಸಂದೆ). A favourite climbing vegetable in South Indian and Southeast Asian gardens — extremely productive and heat-tolerant. Train on a tall trellis for the best yields.
